Graduate Assistantships
at the USC School of Music

Graduate assistantships may be available in the following areas in Fall 2011
(click the titles to view detailed information about each assistantship):

Band   Clarinet Guitar Music Education
Percussion   Piano Strings Theory
    Trumpet Vocal/Choral Music Appreciation

Assistantships may also be available in jazz and orchestra.

The application for an assistantship can be downloaded here.

Assistantship duties require up to 20 hours of work per week. An assistantship award usually includes two award amounts: a stipend and a tuition supplement. The tuition supplement is automatically deducted from the tuition charges (all graduate assistants pay the graduate in-state tuition rate). The supplement will be approximately equal to the tuition charges for 6 graduate credits. Stipends range from $2,400 to $10,000 per academic year.

An applicant must have been admitted by the Graduate School as a degree student before being hired as a graduate assistant. Interested students are encouraged to complete and submit the Assistantship application by March 1 for consideration for the following Fall term. Applications received after March 1 will be considered only if positions are still available. The School of Music does not offer graduate assistantships during the summer months.

Please be aware that full time graduate students, international students, and graduate assistants will be required to provide proof that they are covered by health insurance before registering for classes. In past years, the USC Graduate School has provided a $250 annual subsidy for graduate assistants who purchase the University health insurance plan for the academic year. For more information on the USC sponsored health plan please visit http://www.pearceandpearce.com/PearceSite/Schools/SC/usc/.
