The mission of the Carolina Institute for Music Leadership and Engagement is to effectively train the next generation of music leaders by developing and nurturing the leadership, advocacy and entrepreneurial skills students and alumni need to lead a purposeful musical life.

To accomplish this, the Institute collaborates with existing midlands music organizations and other South Carolina institutions of higher learning to develop significant leadership, engagement, performance and educational opportunities for CILEM participants and partners. Further, by providing a platform for School of Music faculty to further engage the community and innovate their teaching, the Institute will demonstrate that the School of Music has a significant, positive and long-term impact on the region’s musical environment.
