Overview
FEES
All workshops may be taken for non-credit or for either undergraduate
or graduate credit. High school students may enroll in workshops
for non-credit only. The fee for non-credit enrollment is
$150 per workshop credit hour except for the
“"Orff Pedagogy,
Ensemble, and Recorder"” and “"Orff
Movements and Special Topics"” courses which are
$190 per credit hour. Both Orff courses
must be taken for a fee of $570 to achieve Orff
Level I Certification. Undergraduate tuition is $372
(resident) or $970 (nonresident) per credit hour,
and graduate tuition is $440 (resident)
or $936 (nonresident) per credit hour. South
Carolina teachers with a valid teaching certificate issued by
the SC Department of Education may enroll for $300 per
graduate credit hour. Non-SC Certified teachers with a valid
teaching certificate may enroll for $338 per
graduate credit hour. In addition to above fees, USC also charges
a Technology Fee of $17 per credit hour.
REGISTRATION
Non-credit: Applicants who intend to enroll
on a non-credit basis should complete the enclosed Workshop
Reservation Form and return it along with a check or money
order made out to the USC School of Music in the amount of
$150 per workshop credit hour. For Orff Certifcation Level
I the fee is $190 per credit hour for a total of $570. The address
is: Summer Workshops, Traci Hair, School of Music, University
of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208. On-site registration
for non-credit is possible on the first day of each workshop,
but a space will not be guaranteed.
Undergraduate credit: All
workshops are open for credit to upper-division undergraduate
students who are presently enrolled at the University of South
Carolina. Undergraduates from other institutions may enroll
as transient undergraduates (please contact the
USC Undergraduate Admissions Office at 803-777-7700 for the necessary
application and immunization forms; the application process should
be completed one month in advance of the desired
workshop). All persons enrolling for undergraduate credit
should send the enclosed Workshop Reservation Form to: Summer
Workshops, Traci Hair, School of Music, USC, Columbia, SC 29208.
Graduate credit: To enroll for graduate credit, all applicants must be admitted and cleared for registration by the USC Graduate School. Applicants should gain Graduate School admission and clearance at least three weeks in advance of the desired workshop by following one of the procedures described below (non-degree enrollment or degree enrollment).
For Credit enrollment

a) Special Application for Non-Degree Enrollment (available electronically at https://web.csd.sc.edu/cgi-bin/app/grad/index.cgi?degreestatus=n&name=intro.html
b) A check or money order in the amount of $40 submitted directly to: The Graduate School, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC, 29208
c) If you have never been enrolled
for graduate credit at USC, a copy of proof (e.g., diploma or
transcript with degree posted) that you hold at least a bachelor’s
degree. Educators may enclose a copy of a valid teacher
certificate if the certificate clearly shows that the educator
holds a bachelor's degree.
2. Workshop

Upon receiving admission and clearance from the
Graduate School, applicants may enroll for graduate credit in
the workshop(s) of their choice and pay tuition fees via VIP (USC's
Visual Information Processing Internet site) prior to the first
day of the workshop. On site admission, clearance, and registration
on the first day of a workshop is not recommended.
Those wishing to gain admission and clearance on-site should report
directly to the Graduate School with proof of earned bachelor's
degree (see above) and a completed Immunization Requirement Form.
This will take time and class/instruction time will be missed.
