University of South Carolina School of Music houses sixty-one
structural
practice rooms, eight of which are are designated for ensemble
rehearsal. All of the practice rooms are sound proof and individually
climate
controlled. The majority contain an upright piano of varying
manufacturers,
while the rooms designated for students who are enrolled in an
Applied Piano course house Baldwin model "L" 6ft.3in.
grand pianos which were purchased in 1995 when the School of
Music was built.
There is one room designed for duo piano rehearsal which houses
a Baldwin "SF10", 7ft grand and an old Steinway model
"L" 5ft.10.5in.
The eight ensemble rehearsal
rooms each contain either an upright or grand piano, in general
those with an upright are smaller and would be used for chamber
ensembles. The band, choral, percussion, and opera rehearsal
rooms
are larger and designed specifically to meet the needs of those
areas.
