Course Description:
This ten-week course is designed for the beginner guitar student looking to learn the basics of music notation, chords, picking and strumming technique. The students will learn to perform solo, duet, and ensemble pieces in a group setting. The required materials for this course will be selected and provided by the instructor. The selections will be chosen from various sources in order to promote the best learning environment.
Requirements: Students will need to provide their own instrument which can be an acoustic guitar with nylon or steel strings, or an electric guitar with an amplifier. Using an acoustic guitar with nylon strings is recommended for beginners. It is an easier instrument for beginners to play on because it has lighter string tension. The student will also be required to bring his/her guitar for the first day of the class. For further information regarding the course information and purchase/rental of an appropriate guitar please contact the instructor at alsehic82@gmail.com.
The ages suggested for this course are 6-18. According to the diversity and response to the course, two age groupings from ages 6-12 and 12-18 will be formed. Exceptions can be negotiated with the instructor. An adult class may form if there is sufficient interest. We could schedule this at one of the times listed above, or arrange another time if need be. A minimum enrollment of 4 students is required for the course to happen. Full refunds will be made if this enrollment is not met.
There is a no make-up policy for this course. Meaning that if you miss a class you will not receive extra time or a refund for the missed class.
On the last day of the course there will be a concert featuring the students. This will give them an opportunity to share with their parents and others what have they learned in the class.
After the beginners course, students will have an opportunity to continue their education by applying to a second session of this class, that will be offered in the spring term. Continuation of private lessons will also be an option.
