Mrs. Jenkins-Russ saw that there was a real need in the Carolinas, and across our country, for music that welcomes diversity. Not everyone listens and plays Classical Music. This orchestra helps to bridge the gap by utilizing a full symphonic orchestral sound and blending it with hip, contemporary rhythms and music.
Not only does this orchestra strive to give the community something different it also promotes the arts in the community by providing the "Instrumental Awards Program", which awards an instrument to one or two highly deserving Junior high students each year. This Awards Program is designed to keep students playing. Many families may not have the financial means to purchase an instrument for their child. The Awards Program helps families in this situation by providing partial awards to deserving students.
The Carolina Cool jazz Orchestra is 95% Professional. There are four highly talented high school students in this group. The group is based in Spartanburg, South Carolina but strives to perform in as many places as possible in both North and South Carolina.
