USC JAZZ STUDIES

HIRING the USC JAZZ COMBOS

GENERAL INFORMATION

The USC JAZZ COMBOS are available for receptions and parties. We can provide anything from a solo pianist, a duo, trio, quartet or large ensemble. Singers are available.

The USC Jazz Combos have been performing for several receptions and special events on campus for several years. You may have recently heard them at a graduation receptions. The USC Jazz Combos have also performed locally for the Cultural Council, Museum of Art openings and many private functions including wedding receptions and anniversary parties.

Through a credit class at the School of Music, the USC Jazz Combos work independently and with supervision to prepare jazz standards, jazz classic material, and current jazz and pop repertoire for various performances throughout the semester. The musicians have to learn how to work together, rehearse, and prepare music themselves. This class is a good example of how we prepare students for a music career by giving them the experience of being part of a real-world working band. Each semester the Left Bank Big Band and the Bank Combo perform a formal concert with a guest artist. Past guests have included: Louie Bellson, Steve Houghton, Marion McPartland, Bob Shephard, Steve Kujala, Bill Watrous, Marvin Stamm, Bill Holman, Jim McNeely, Randy Brecker, John Fedchock, Dick Oates, Dave Zoller, and Ed Soph. The Music School is currently considering other exciting artists for future concerts.
