USC JAZZ STUDIES

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available for outstanding undergraduate students of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums who are interested in pursuing arranging and performance degrees in jazz studies. There are a limited number of graduate assistantships available. Classes include jazz improvisation, jazz theory, arranging, applied lessons (jazz and traditional), small combos, and big bands. There is an opportunity for the students to play and write music for all the ensembles. Students must be evaluated by the appropriate applied faculty for assignment into the applied sequence. Pianists must play for the piano faculty, wind players for the winds faculty, brass players for the brass faculty, and percussionists for the percussion faculty.

The information below only applies to the jazz audition. For other auditions, contact the appropriate applied areas.
