The
Group Piano Program at the University of South Carolina School of
Music is designed to provide non-keyboard undergraduate music majors
with piano playing and piano accompaniment skills, skills in improving
sight reading ability, opportunities for music improvisation, and
practical activities in keyboard harmonization for direct utilization
in respective employment arenas. The group piano program also provides
coursework specifically for the non-music major who wishes to study
the piano for personal enrichment.
The Group Piano Laboratory is outfitted with the following equipment:
- 1 CVP-85A Yamaha Clavinova Instructor's Keyboard
- 2 MLC-100 Master Controllers
- 20 CLP 155 Yamaha Student Clavinova Keyboards
- 1 SCI Keynote Visualizer
- 1 Dry-Erase Board
- 1 Overhead Projection Unit

The
Group Piano Program is coordinated by Dr. Scott Price and is staffed
by qualified graduate assistants in Piano and Piano Pedagogy at
the University of South Carolina School of Music. The Group Piano
Program is committed to quality teacher training of its graduate
assistants and offers coursework in the pedagogy of group piano.
MUSC 767 Pedagogy of Group Piano consists of surveys of
existing texts, projects concerning the creation and administration
of the group piano program, and in-class teaching demonstrations
and critiques of lesson materials, planning, and teaching techniques.
MUSC 768 Directed Teaching of Group Piano consists of directed
in-class teaching of evening adult hobby classes. Graduate Assistants
in Group Piano are required to attend planning sessions and to use
the following materials in lesson planning.
