OPERA AT USC

Opera at USC announces a 2 week OPERA CAMP is open to children ages 8 to 16. The summer day camp will take place weekdays Monday, July 7 through Friday, July 18, 2008, 10am to 4pm at the University of South Carolina School of Music, 813 Assembly Street in downtown Columbia.
Opera at USC staff and guest artists will provide daily workshops that teach campers the techniques of opera production. Children will work with professional level opera singers, directors, and designers as they explore the basics of creating realistic acting characterizations; participate in voice, music reading, and rhythm exercises; and learn about set, lighting, and costume design.

On Friday July 18 at 6:00pm, campers will present BRUNDIBAR a half hour opera written for children. The registration fee is $450 per student, which includes the $35 non-refundable deposit that is due with the completed registration form; need-based scholarships are available. Some knowledge of music and singing required.
For more information (803) 777-0058. Applications accepted starting May 3, 2008
