ICE Reading Session Submission Guidelines
The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) reading session will take place on Sunday morning, October 5th, from 11:00-12:30. After lunch, we'll reconvene for a seminar presentation by the ensemble from 1:30-2:30. Please consider writing a (short) work for this group. They're one of the premier contemporary music ensembles in the country, and it's a great chance to hear your work played by seasoned professionals. You can learn more about the group by visiting their Web site:
http://www.iceorg.org
ICE's Southern Exposure concert will take place on Saturday, October 4th, at 7:30 p.m.
Here are the guidelines for your reading session submission:
- Submitted works should be no longer than 10 minutes (5-8' is best). However, if you did want to write a work longer than 10 minutes, feel free to do so. We'll try to read as much of your piece as possible, but can't guarantee anything at this point.
- Instrumentation: Flute, Clarinet (in Bb), Violin, Cello, Piano, 1 Percussion, and Tenor (voice). You may choose a subset of this group, but use at least four players. Vocal works that use the singer are optional. Please work closely with your composition teacher, or discuss your planned project with a member of the composition faculty ahead of time. Large percussion set-ups cannot be accommodated.
- Complete scores must be submitted to the composition faculty by the FIRST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER (exact date TBA). The faculty will make judgments on what pieces can be read given quantity and quality of works submitted, stylistic appropriateness to the ensemble, clear notation, etc. In general, we will try to read as many works as possible. However, we cannot guarantee that all composers will have their works read.
- All scores submitted must be double-sided, properly bound, have title page and instrumentation page, etc. If your score is selected, subsequent parts must also be bound, clear, and professional. Please check with the composition faculty if you have questions.
