Description
The
Southern Exposure New Music Series kicks off its 2005-2006 season
with a tour-de-force concert of music from India by Kartik Seshadri,
accompanied by Arup Chattopadhyay on tabla. The history of Indian classical
music goes back nearly two thousand years, and unlike western classical
music, much of the music is improvised and depends on the creativity
and skill of the performer. The tradition is an oral one, taught directly
from teacher to student, and Mr. Seshadri was the foremost prodigy
of the world renowed performer Ravi Shankar. In recent years, Kartik
Seshadri has performed in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Lincoln
Center, Carnegi Hall, and has collaborated with noted composer Phillip
Glass and the Brazilian group UAKTI in worldwide performances ranging
from the Ravinia Festival in Chicago and the Brooklyn Academy of Music
in New York to the Cervantino Festival in Mexico and Australia's Melbourne
International Arts Festival. We are honored to present the engaging
and celebrated artist; please join us for this very special event!
Kartik Seshadri
will give a free public lecture and demonstration on Friday, November
18, from 1:25-2:25 p.m. in the USC School of Music Recital Hall.
