As part of the 2008 Jazz Discovery Music Festival, Dr. Lou Fischer, co-author of Rhythm Section Workshop For Jazz Band Directors (Director's Manual, DVD, Play-along CD and five workbooks-Alfred Publ.), will present a FREE clinic demonstrating stylistic concepts and techniques essential to achieving clarity and accuracy in your rhythm section. The clinic will include tips and teaching methods related to: set-up; production of good sound quality; balance and blend; fundamental voicings and comping options; themed bass lines and development; a concise, detailed methodology into each individual instrument's established role within given styles. In a nutshell, the music is not on the page and this clinic is aimed at helping you to generate the best performance by your rhythm section.
Experience this how to demonstration and you too can learn to teach these techniques effectively. The clinic will begin at 3:00 pm at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, SC, and will also include clinics and performances by Steve Smith's Jazz Legacy as well as Mike Steinel from North Texas and Joe Eckert, former leader of the Airmen of Note.
For additional information about the jazz festival please visit our website at www.nhsjazz.com or email Mark Yost at MYOST@rock-hill.k12.sc.us . Dr. Fischer's appearance is being funded in part by grants and assistance from Alfred Publishing and the Yamaha Corporation.
