Dear USC Theory Students,

Welcome back! We hope you have a great fall semester.

Here are seven things we value in all of our written theory and aural skills courses:

  1. Regular attendance
  2. Daily participation
  3. Class preparation through reading, homework, listening, analysis, and computer-assisted instruction
  4. Determination, perseverance and hard work
  5. Creativity
  6. Singing/Performance
  7. Critical listening

There are many ways to participate in class. Come to class regularly and be attentive. Share your insights with your colleagues. Sing, perform, create, etc. You will be given the opportunity to do all of these things in our theory program. In return for your efforts, we promise to do our best to offer interesting theory courses that will prepare you to meet the challenges of your future musical endeavors. Theory can be fun, and we will work to make it so.

All the best,

Dr. Reginald Bain
Theory Program Coordinator
