I am delighted that
you have chosen to visit the homepage of the Friends of
the School of Music at USC!
Our School of Music is most fortunate to have a group of supporters
who are so deeply committed to the activities and achievements
of our school. The Friends help sustain the work of
the School as one of our most valuable partners, helping enhance
the quality of the education provided to our students and the
musical events available to the people of South Carolina and
beyond.
Founded in 1992, the Friends have provided more than
$125,000 in scholarship assistance to today's music majors and
tomorrow's professional musicians. This scholarship aid has had
a profound impact, on both the development of the individual
scholarship recipients and on the entire School of Music. The
ability to attract and retain talented student musicians by means
of significant scholarship support is a key
ingredient in maintaining and improving the overall quality of
our student body.
The generosity of the Friends has enabled worthy student
musicians to concentrate fully on their musical education and
development. The musical calendars for the 2005-06 and 2006-07
academic years are filled with many exciting events made possible
by this enabling, and includes guest soloists with our Symphony
Orchestra, two exciting operas, many concerts by our bands, choirs,
jazz and percussion ensembles, and many guest artistis, faculty,
and student recitals. An up-to-date calendar of events can be
found at the School of Music's main web page. Please consult
this as often as you wish and become a part of our dynamic School
of Music by experiencing many hours of enjoyable concert attendance
in the months ahead. I am privileged to speak for the entire
faculty, staff, and students of the School of Music when I express
to you my heartfelt appreciation for your continued support of
the School of Music.
