Notice how the quality of the major triads (C, Db, and D) change. The C triad is stable, having been tuned a just 6:5:4. However, as you can see, the Db & D triads are not just. In this music, they have been exploited for the capacity to suggest movement. First, the Db chord nicely supports the Bb in the melody (bar 2) creating an added-tone triad (Bb6). Next, the D triad nicely supports the F# and Eb in the melody (bar 3, beat 1), while the second Db chord (bar 3 beat 2) creates an exciting (low) tritone substitution.
