Step-by-step instructions

Use the Tab key to move from field (box) to field (box). Use Shift-Tab to go backwards.

  1. Click on the 12-TET (ratio equivalents) card
  2. From the Edit menu, choose New Card
  3. Turn the sound on by checking the sound radio button
  4. Set the number of steps per octave in the tones/oct field to 12.
  5. Set the 1/1 freq to 261.625.
    (This is the frequency of C4, based on 12et tuning around A4.)
  6. In the first (smaller) row, enter the pitch-class names of the chromatic scale you want
  7. In the second (larger) row, enter the interval frequency ratios you want using the numerator-return-demoninator technique explained in Fig. 2.
  8. Name your tuning using by editing the name field at the top of the card. Be sure your name appears somewhere in it.
  9. Use JI Calc's Note feature to type up a note that describes your tuning.
  10. From the File menu, choose Print Card
  11. Click the Index button to return to the top-level of the program.
    You should see your tuning listed as the second one on the list.
