Not Speaking (1993, rev. 2003) was written for saxophonists Mark Engebretson and Susan Fancher, and virtuoso Swedish percussionist Anders Åstrand. The world premiere took place in Folkhögskolan, Sweden on December 4, 1993.

The revised edition presented here features a new vibraphone part with more practical technical requirements. The premiere of the revised edition was given by Scott Herring, vibraphone, Clifford Leaman, soprano saxophone, and Jamal Rossi, alto saxophone, at the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) Region 7 Conference, and it also featured at the World Saxophone Congress Minneapolis that summer. Not Speaking has been performed extensively throughout Europe and the U.S.
