Brad Edwards,
Professor of Trombone - University of South Carolina
About the USC Trombone
Studio
Since joining USC, I have been
working to build an already fine trombone studio into an even better
one. All music majors study with me directly and may also receive extra
instruction with a graduate assistant. Weekly masterclasses include
student performances for peers, discussion of informative articles and
focused listening to recordings. In addition to trombone choir, I encourage
students to form trombone quartets and seek performance opportunities.
Instead of using a "cookie cutter"
style of teaching, I change my approach to fit the needs of the individual
student. I am always striving to refine and improve my craft as
a teacher and to find innovative ways to help my students grow technically
and musically. Within the studio, I try to foster an atmosphere of mutual
support rather than competition.

The Performance Certificate
The performance certificate is
a way to recognize musical excellence in the efforts of undergraduates
who are not performance majors. In fact, if you are not sure you want
to major in music but wish to continue your musical pursuits, you are
still eligible to pursue the performance certificate.
