Trombone Ensembles

Students gain valuable experience performing with trombone ensembles at USC. All ensembles have an opportunity for public performance at USC Trombone Night. Some smaller ensembles pursue public performances off campus.

The Carolina Trombone Collective
This is a new ensemble starting Fall 2001. Member are seated by blind auditions. With this group, I am striving for a different kind of college trombone ensemble. Instead of just conducting, I spend some time playing in the group while students conduct. I encourage students to bring in arrangements and compositions.

Trombone Quartets
Students have the option to play in a trombone quartet. If they wish, they can receive academic credit for their involvement. Student quartets receive coachings and have the opportunity to perform in seminar, at USC Trombone Night and in student recitals.

Seminar Performances

Trombone students are required to perform regularly for their peers in student seminar. Student seminars are held twice weekly both in the recital hall and in the large ensemble rehearsal hall.

Student Recitals

The solo recital represents the culmination of a student's trombone study at USC. Music Education majors are required to give a senior recital while Performance Majors and Performance Certificate candidates give recitals in their junior and senior years. Sophomores who are Performance Majors or Performance Certificate candidates are encouraged to give half recitals.
