ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF
Dean (Dr. Tayloe Harding)
The dean is the chief administrative officer
for the School of Music and provides leadership in matters related to
program development, personnel, workload, annual review, resource management,
support services, public relations, and external funding. The dean acts
as the School's liaison with the University Administration and is a
member of the University Council of Deans.
Associate Dean (Dr. Andrew Gowan)
The associate dean coordinates academic
scheduling, makes classroom and office space assignments, participates
in curriculum development, supports faculty, and provides administrative
services to masterclasses, workshops, and symposia. The associate
dean is a primary contact with Facilities Management and Media Relations
and serves as the liaison with all outside users of School of Music
facilities. The associate dean also serves ex-officio as a member
of the Music Executive Committee and is a member of the USC Assistant
and Associate Deans Council.
Director of Graduate Studies (Dr.
Andrew Gowan)
The Director of Graduate Studies is responsible for the coordination,
implementation, and administration of all graduate programs, including
the following: maintenance of student records; implementation of University
and School policy and procedures; appointment of graduate assistants
(in consultation with the dean and appropriate faculty); coordination
of orientation and advisement; review and evaluation of admission
applications;
administration of diagnostic, oral and comprehensive examinations;
and the formulation of audition, master's, and doctoral committees.
The Graduate Director also schedules graduate classes, edits School
copy for the USC Graduate Bulletin, and serves as the School's liaison
with the Graduate School.
Director of Undergraduate Studies
(Prof. Robert Pruzin)
The undergraduate director is responsible for the coordination, implementation,
and administration of all undergraduate programs, including the maintenance
of student records, implementation of University & School policies
and procedures, and the processing of curricular changes. The
director serves as the chair of the Undergraduate Studies Committee,
produces the School of Music Undergraduate Handbook, and edits School
of Music information for the USC Undergraduate Studies Bulletin.
In addition, the director is a primary contact with USC Admissions,
supervises undergraduate registration processes, and certifies the graduation
of undergraduate students.
Director of Advisement and Student Teaching
(Prof. Robert Pruzin)
The Director of Advisement and Student Teaching is responsible for coordinating
advisement of incoming freshmen and transfer students in the summer, disseminating
information to faculty advisors, assigning students to faculty for advisement,
preparing senior checks for graduating music education students, and organizing
the School's collaboration with the College of Education. Student
teaching-related duties include advising prospective student teachers,
processing student teaching applications, procuring placements in the
public schools, assigning University supervisors, and maintaining files
on each current student teacher.
Director of Development for the School
of Music (Mrs. Leslie Wrenn)
The Director of Development is responsible for the School's comprehensive
development program and for the planning and implementation of overall
fund-raising efforts in support of current operation, endowment, and
other capital purposes from all private sources. The development
officer serves as primary staff for individual prospects of $10,000
or more, serves as primary staff or as liaison for planned giving prospects,
develops and implements gift acknowledgement and recognition programs,
and serves as primary development staff to the School's leadership board.Director of Music Admissions for the
School of Music (Ms. Jennifer Jablonski)
The Director of Music Admissions is responsible
for all aspects of undergraduate admissions in the School
of Music and reports directly to the Dean. The Director of Music
Admissions oversees all recruiting initiatives; coordinates recruitment
and admission of students in each performing discipline with the faculty
in the respective areas; is the principal School of Music liaison
with
prospective students/families; is the principal School of Music liason
with the University Office of Admissions; represents the School of
Music
at state and national music conferences, performing arts high schools,
and arts recuitment fairs. The Director of Music Admissions
coordinates all apsects of Scholarship Auditions and oversees all
School of Music
publications. STAFF
Executive Assistant to
the Dean/Media Coordinator
(Mrs. Laveta Gibson)
The dean's Administrative Assistant manages the administrative office
of the School of Music, and serves as administrative assistant to
the Dean; serves as Media Coordinator for the School of Music, working
closely with the USC Media Events office. Responsible for reserving
Faculty and Student recitals, and managing the School of Music calendars.
Responsible for maintaining Events on the School of Music website.
Editor of Da Capo magazine
Budget/Business Manager (Mrs.
Rhonda Gibson)
The School of Music Budget Manager coordinates
business management activities for the School of Music, develops and
monitors fiscal compliance policies and procedures; performs activities
related to fiscal management (personnel, procurement, supplies, and
auxiliary services); prepares detailed financial analyses of all programs;
submits
written reports; coordinates special projects; and works with the School's
Development Officer on grant applications.
Administrative Assistant for Academic
Affairs (Mrs. Jammie Turner)
The Administrative Assistant for Academic Affairs serves as secretary
to the Undergraduate Director and Associate Dean; administers admissions/advising/financial
aid processes for the School of Music; maintains student records for
undergraduate students both in residence and after graduation; implements
undergraduate scholarship recommendations; implements and processes
faculty teaching evaluations; oversees all correspondence and communication
related to undergraduate recruitment and admission; and serves as administrative
assistant for summer programs.Administrative Assistant for Graduate
Studies (Mrs. Traci Hair)
The Administrative Assistant for Graduate Studies serves as assistant
for the Graduate Director; develops and maintains a data base system
for identifying and tracking prospective graduate students, applicants,
and current students; process all graduate-assistant applications;
prepares
faculty ballots for degree recitals, written and oral exams, etc;
prepares letters and graduate packets for applicants and prospective
students;
maintain a current job listing file for graduating students; and handles
registration for the USC Summer Workshop program.
Administrative Assistant for Bands
(Mrs. Andrea Pouncey)
The Administrative Assistant for Bands serves as assistant to the band
faculty; oversees the bookkeeping and preparation of paperwork for
the band budget; prepares materials, schedules, and registration for
special
projects (band clinics, summer music camp, and Carolina Band Camp);
and coordinates band recruitment efforts.
Administrative Assistant for Choral
Activities (Mrs. Sara Beardsley)
The Administrative Assistant for Choral Activities serves as assistant
for the choral and opera faculty; develops and coordinates publicity
for the choral and opera programs, supervises choral graduate assistants,
assists with
vocal/choral/conducting
recruitment and admissions, assists with departmental concert and tour
arrangements, and schedules special choral events (Honors Chorus, Workshops,
etc.)
Administrative Assistant for CSAM (Center
for Southern African American Music) (Mrs.
Frankie Goodman)
The Administrative Assistant for CSAM serves as the assistant for
the CSAM program and its Director. Plans and coordinates events,
including publicity, mailings, publications for the program. Serves
as Educational Outreach for CSAM.
Administrative Assistant for Development
(Ms. Jesseca Smith)
The Administrative Assistant for Development serves as assistant for
the Director of Development and serves as liaison in absence of the
Director of Development; provides support in major gift raising, travel,
confidential report generation, and administrative support for the
Friends
of the School of Music volunteer organization; maintains database for
donors, prospective donors and School of Music alumni. Orders
faculty textbooks, prepares all faculty and student recital programs,
collects key deposits, and monitors the inventory of office supplied.
Administrative
Assistant for Admissions (Mr.
George Fetner )
The Administrative
Assistant for Admissions serves
as assistant
for the Director of Admissions and serves as liaison in absence of the Director
of Admissions. Assists
in preparing brochures and correspondence related to Community Outreach programs
(CMDC, CMP),
coordinating registration procedures for programs and depositing tuition for
programs. Assists with School of Music Advertising and coordinating
School of Music events.
Inventory Manager (Mr. Tim Crenshaw)
The Inventory Manager maintains records of the School's inventory, directs
the purchase of new equipment, coordinates the rental of instruments
for music education method classes, coordinates the repair of musical
instruments and the transportation of instruments and equipment, and
oversees the operation of the entire facility.
Information Technology Director (Mr.
Jason Trenary)
The Information Technology Director directs the development,
design, and operation of data processing systems and computer labs
for the USC School of Music; plans, configures, and provides maintenance
for all server implementations; directs support and maintenance for
all workstations; and provides network troubleshooting when necessary.
The majority of this position's time is spent "behind the scenes" developing,
implementing, and supporting database systems, web systems, web applications,
e-mail systems, file sharing systems, backup systems, scheduling systems,
computer security systems, podcasting systems, as well as developing
future solutions for the school's implementation of information technology.
This position manages the information technology budget, including
budgetary planning, purchasing, and account management. This position
also serves as liaison to University Technology Services, addressing
network-related issues and University-wide system implementations as
they relate to the School of Music. When necessary, this position interfaces
with faculty and staff by means of distance control tools, through
email, and by phone.
Technical Support Specialist (Mr.
Paul Wallace)
The Technical Support Specialist assists the faculty, staff, and students
with technical support on basic issues related to desktop computers,
applications, the Music Technology Center, and the School of Music
website. Technical support is provided to users through installation,
testing, and troubleshootimg of computer systems, installed applications,
and connected peripherals. Support is also provided by means of performing
requested textual updates to web pages on the School of Music website.
Activities require a response either in-person, over the phone, by
email, or through distance control tools within one business day of
a report, when possible. When the volume of requests increase, creating
a backlog of requests, longer response times are inevitable. Faculty,
staff, and students requiring technical assistance should send emails
to support@mozart.sc.edu when possible, or leave voice mails at 777-0124,
when email is not an option.
Director of Piano Services (Randy Rentz )
The Director of Piano Services is responsible
for the piano inventory in the School of Music.. He maintains Recital Hall pianos, piano
and voice faculty studio pianos, and piano major practice room pianos.
Supervises the rebuilding of piano action and keyboards and supervises
the work of any piano technicians working in the School of Music.
Recording Engineer (Mr. Jeff Francis)
The Recording Engineer is the chief audio recording technician for the
School of Music and is responsible for supervising and maintaining the
School's Recording Control Center, Recital Hall Control Room, and classroom
audio-video systems; for developing policies and
procedures for audio technology; for recommending, designing, and implementing
the installation of audio equipment; for developing and teaching courses
in audio technology; and for assisting in the development of recorded
archives of musical performances.
