International Course in Spanish Music

The USC School of Music and the Study Abroad Office are pleased to announce the third season of the International Course in Spanish Music. This intensive course will be offered in the beautiful Sierra Guadarrama region north of Madrid, Spain, at the Abbey of the Holy Cross (seminar center). A select group of vocalists, guitarists, and pianists will receive expert instruction in Spanish and Latin-American repertoire from an internationally recognized faculty. Course director Dr. Helen Tintes will prepare participants with a pre-trip seminar on Spanish culture, music, and history and is also available for repertoire consultation. The two-week Spanish experience includes classes, concerts, and excursions to Segovia, Toledo and Salamanca, culminating in a gala concert by course participants. Date: June 30-July 13, 2008 (arrival in Madrid on June 28)

Credit: 1-3 variable credits (undergraduate and graduate credit through USC), 1 credit mandatory

Location: Abbey of the Holy Cross (seminar center with double rooms, private bath, and all meals included); Madrid, Spain (double rooms with breakfast). Single rooms are available with surcharge.

Instruction: International faculty of bilingual artist-teachers, private lessons, master classes, and seminars

Cost: $2,500 (program fee subject to change) includes lessons, concerts, lodging, most meals, excursions, and bus transfers. Tuition credit and airfare are not included.*

Requirements: Undergraduate and graduate level vocalists, pianists, and guitarists; live or taped auditions. Auditors are welcome.

Scholarships and Assistance: The USC Study Abroad Office assists students with applying to study abroad programs, arranging financial aid, applying for scholarships, and pre-departure planning.
