ProTools Recording
| Note: this is out of date - it will be updated soon.
This setup assumes you want to record the L/R output of the console.
Step 1:Signal Flow (NO Patching Required!)
Mackie 24•8 L/R Buss out to 192 I/O analog inputs 1/2 - NORMALLED
192 I/O analog outputs 1/2 to Console Monitor External In - NORMALLED
Step 2: Open ProTools and make a new session.
Make sure you pay attention to where you create (save) your session.
If you store it in someone else's folder, it may be inadvertently
deleted!!
Double-click the Stereo16 Template on AudioHD1. This will
launch ProTools.
Please note: the Stereo16 Template is a 44.1kHz/16bit session. Do not
use it if you want to work at other sampling rates or bit depths.
Navigate to the Desktop by pressing Command-D.
Then open the ProTools Audio drive. Use AudioDrive1 for recitals
and AudioDrive2 for classwork. Navigate to your student folder, if
necessary.
Give this session a name and hit Enter. For Recitals, use a 6-digit
date and the performer's last name. i.e., 122503 Kringle

Step 3: Set ProTools to accept the analog input.
Go to Hardware Setup under the Setups menu. Set:
Ch 1-2 Input to Analog 1/2
Set Clock Source to Internal

Step 4: Tell ProTools where to store your audio files.
Go to Disk Allocation under the Setups menu:
Set: Each track to the same audio drive that you used in Step 2. AudioDrive1
for recitals and AudioDrive2 for classwork.

Step 5: Set Preferences
Go to Preferences under the Setups menu. Here you will
find several pages of Preferences. Get used to looking here at the start
of every session.
Step 6: Record
Put each track into Record Ready by clicking the REC button on each
track. It should turn red.
Start recording by pressing Command-Space Bar or by pressing Record
then Play on the Transport Panel.
