(lights on left side)
Recall the RECITAL BASIC snapshot.
- Note: Be sure none of the Recall Safe boxes are checked. You
should see signal and hear the recital hall by monitoring the
stereo bus.
Check ProTools Hardware Setup.
- Make sure ProTools is set to lock to External Word Clock and
Input 1-2 is AES/EBU 1-2
Create a new Pro Tools Session for each individual concert.
- Use standard naming conventions (six digit date, space, performer’s
last name or ensemble name) MMDDYY Title
- Session settings: 16bit, 44.1kHz, Wav file format
- Store all sessions on the top level of Audio HD1.
- Create a new Stereo Audio track and click the record ready button.
You should see signal and hear it by monitoring ProTools on the
console.
- Check the ProTools Disk Allocation (should be AudioHD1:MMDDYY_Title)
Setup the Masterlink.
- On the Masterlink, make sure you are in HD(hard disk) mode.
Find an empty playlist and name it with a four digit date and
four letters of the title (MMDDTitl). Hit Playlist Edit and make
a New Track. Set the following:
- Sample Rate: 44.1kHz
- Input Source: Digital
- Word Length: 16bit
- Hit the RECORD button to put the Masterlink in Record-Ready.
You should see signal and hear it by monitoring Masterlink on
the console.
Start Recording (ProTools and MasterLink) 5 minutes before the
scheduled start of the recital.
Do not stop ProTools.
Mark tracks.
- Make a new track on the Masterlink (by pressing the New Track
button) at the start of every piece; and every movement if the
piece is broken into distinct movements. Note the track numbers
of each piece on one copy of the program. Leave the other two
blank.
Miscellaneous
- Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before the start of the recital,
earlier if additional mic setups are required.
- All onstage mic setups must be completed 30 minutes before the
scheduled start of the recital (all mics tested and passing signal
cleanly). The recital hall doors will be opened 30 minutes before
the concert. It looks unprofessional to be placing mics at this
time.
- Check the status of the curtains. For all but the loudest music
(jazz, percussion ensemble, etc.) they should be hidden, unless
the perform requests something different. The controls are on
the wall of the Recital Hall audio booth opposite the door.
- Obtain 3 copies of the recital program from outside the Recital
Hall door.
- You must be ready to record 15 minutes before the scheduled
start of the recital. (All patches made, snapshots loaded, etc.)
Make sure that signal is getting cleanly to all console channels,
to and from recorders. Make sure the stereo image is balanced
(left/right) and is in stereo!
- If the concert involves loud instruments (brass, percussion,
large ensembles, etc), lower the mic preamps (Benchmark in the
recital hall booth) to prevent overload. Normal recitals will
be about 1:00. Drop to 11:00 for loud.
- Follow the program closely and note any changes that occur during
the concert.
- Enter the program info (with changes) into the tape label database
on the iMac. Be sure to check for accuracy spelling counts!
- Pay attention so that you do not miss anything. Instrumentalists
with piano accompaniment will usually tune first, but not always.
- You must listen attentively to the entire recital. Do not leave
the room, make phone calls, play on the Internet, invite friends
in, etc.
- When the concert is over, continue recording for at least 2
minutes after the end of the last applause. (this is to ensure
you do not miss encores or other additional music)
- Leave the workorder and programs in the folder on the file cabinet
in the machine room.
- Use your ears and your brain!
