All children are expected to be in their school program when they reach the appropriate age and where one exists.
String Project Rules and Expectations:
A. Attendance
Students must be present at all scheduled lessons and orchestra rehearsals
B. Absences
If it is necessary for a student to miss a class or lesson, the parent
should telephone the String Project Office Music Office (777-9568)
or e-mail uscsp@mozart.sc.edu before the scheduled time. If it is
necessary for a teacher to cancel a lesson, he/she is required to
notify the parent in advance and to make-up the lesson. If a teacher
should miss a lesson without having informed the student, the SP office
should be notified immediately.
C. Valid Excuses
The only valid excuses for absences are
1) illness 2) a death in the immediate family or 3) a public school
conflict.
D. Absence Limit
A total of two unexcused absences will result in automatic probation.
E. Promptness
Students are expected to be prompt at all scheduled lessons and rehearsals.
Excessive tardiness will result in probation.
F. Orchestra
All String Project students (2nd year and above) are expected to be
in one of the associated orchestras: Silver Strings, Concertino or
Intermezzo.
Students in the Sinfonia and Pre-college levels should participate
in one of the SC Philharmonic youth orchestras. Please call their
office for details.
G. Performance and Juries
An unexcused absence from a jury or concert will result in probation.
H. Enrollment
Students in the String Project must be in their own school orchestra
where one exists.
I Students are expected to:
1. Maintain themselves in orderly fashion in lessons and classrooms.
2. Bring the proper equipment with them for each class (i.e., instrument,
pencil and
note book to lessons)
3. Show the proper respect for the property of the University and
their fellow students.
4. Be orderly in the halls at all times.
J. Practicing
1. Students in the first year beginning classes are expected to practice
15 minutes every day
2. Students in the more advanced levels are expected to practice at
least 30 minutes per day.
K. Student Probation
All problems involving probation will be taken up immediately with
the parents of the child involved. Probation lasts one semester.
