Bass
During my time at USC, I studied bass under the tutelage of
Craig Butterfield.
While the primary goal was to learn how to play bass, we also
worked on issues unique to bass players and common problems among
secondary bass instruments and musicians. Having a firm
foundation in the fundamentals of bass technique has already proved
invaluable in working with beginning students and with basses in
ensembles. This video was made fairly early in my
bass training. Although
my bow hold was a bit pronated, this is a good representation of
general bass proficiency. I also worked on eliminating
superfluous motion with the head and having a more centered sounding
point.
